Research Summary
Dr. Liu's primary interests lie in fundamental understanding of transport and electro-catalytic properties of surfaces and interfaces. In particular, he is interested in probing and mapping electrochemical reactions in fuel cells and gas sensors using FTIR/Raman spectro-microscopy, in-situ, under conditions similar to practical operating conditions. Tip-enhanced Raman scattering (TERS) is being developed to achieve spatial resolution of about 20 nm, which is anticipated to provide information vital to intelligent design of nano-structured electrodes for fuel cells, batteries, and gas sensors.
