Research Summary
Research focuses on the synthesis and characterization of nanoscopic silica and polymeric materials. Control of porosity and surface functionalities in silica spanning from nanoporous to mesoporous is achieved through patterning and templating processes. In particular, new techniques have been developed to spatially pattern silica surfaces on the nanoscale, leading to creation of isolated surface functionalities of controlled, uniform spacing. Application of the nanomaterials in adsorptive separations and catalysis are being pursued.
